The Book Thief

The Book Thief - Markus Zusak A work of perfection! I loved this story and I loved the way it was told. Narrated by "Death", we learn the story of Liesel Meminger, a german girl whose heart is broken over and over again during WWII. This book is marketed to teenagers, but adults will enjoy it too. I think the idea is that our young people should know that not all the Germans in WWII Germany were or wanted to be Nazis. This is a book about the beauty of friendship in sharp contrast to the atrocities that humans are capable of committing.
Be prepared- the subject matter is harsh and there will be tears and outrage, but Zusak does a good job of balancing that with tenderness and humorous moments.
