Olive Kitteridge

Olive Kitteridge - Elizabeth Strout This is a book of perfect sentences. One right after the other pulls you along so that it's not even so much the story itself that's intriguing, it's the way Strout constructs her words to describe the ups and downs of peoples' lives. Needless to say, the writing is phenomenal.

Many have commented that the book is overly dark and depressing. Perhaps so. But it is also funny and sweet and sentimental. And Funny! (Did anyone not see the humor?) And ultimately hopeful. Olive left me wanting to embrace life. To not let another second go by without appreciating the people around you. Because really, who would want to end up like Mrs. Olive Kitteridge. The dynamics of the relationship between her and Christopher were enough to break your heart. Many lessons to be learned there.
